PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording device which can binarize sound data or/and video data by automatically selecting an encoding system matching the inputted analog sound data or the analog video data inputted accompanying the sound data without letting a user specially be aware of that and efficiently encodes and records the data without oppressing storage capacity. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a selecting means which selects a sound and video encoding means 303 when a recognizing means 301 recognizes that the video data are inputted and a sound-only encoding means 304 when the recognizing means 301 recognizes that the video data are not inputted and a recording means 305 which records the encoded sound data or the encoded video data accompanying the sound data.
