PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape cassette in which a sheet-like light shielding plate having a bent part whose corners at the side of the bent part of a square-shaped light transmitting hole are not torn during the processing of the light shielding plate is inserted and held. SOLUTION: The tape cassette 1 houses a pair of tape reels wound around a tape medium rotatably in a cassette main body consisting of an upper and lower cases 10 and 20. Opening parts for transmitting light used for the purpose of detecting a tape end are provided on both right and left side walls of the cassette main body. Sheet-like light shielding plates 30 and 40 having a height corresponding to the inner side size of the case and formed with light transmitting holes are inserted in and held, respectively, near the opening parts of both right and left side walls. At least either of the light shielding plates is a light shielding plate 30 having a bent part and a square-shaped light transmitting hole near the bent part. Corners of the bent part side of the light transmitting hole of the light shielding plate 30 having the bent part are cut in a round shape.
