PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill discriminating device provided with an insertion port opening and closing mechanism with the simple structure at a reasonable cost. SOLUTION: An insertion port opening and closing mechanism 30 for opening and closing a bill insertion port 21 is formed of a single shaft member 31, an insertion port door 32 to be turned at 180 degree around the shaft member 31 so as to open and close the bill insertion port 21, and a spring 32 for always energizing the insertion port door 32 in the closing direction so as to reset the opened insertion port door 32 to the closing condition.
