<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coordinate input device capable of more exactly judging the contact/non-contact of a shield to the display screen of a touch panel. SOLUTION: A light receiving part for receiving reflected light, with which light emitted from a light source is reflected by a reflecting part, has two of upper and lower read lines. Each of these read line (upper and lower light receiving lines 4a and 4b) is located parallel to a display screen 31 at a different position In a direction orthogonal to the display screen 31a of a touch panel 31 (in the direction of the height) within a detection plane 5. Since the distance between the light receiving lines 4a and 4b is previously known, by measuring time for a shield 33 to pass the respective light receiving lines 4a and 4b, the moving speed of the shield 33 is known.
