Hot plate (10), on which a cooking pot is placed, has a heating element and scales that comprise sensors (13, 14) that detect deformation of the hot plate resulting from a load being placed on it. The hot plate has a fixed area (15) the sinking of which as a result of a load being place on it is used to determine the load weight. The invention also relates to a method for producing a hot plate with an appropriate contour that will deform in a suitable manner.
