The valve element (4) of the check valve and mounting (3) accommodating the valve element are held in a tubular cylindrical housing (2). The valve element has an annular valve tongue (6) facing the inner wall (7) of the housing. The flow passage is formed as a gap (12) between the mounting and inner wall, and the downstream side of the valve tongue has a flow restricting component (13) which narrows the annular gap, whereby a pocket-type pressure chamber (15) in communication with the annular gap is formed between the valve tongue and wall section (14) of the restrictor.
