ENVIRONMENT NON-LOADING PROCESS FOR REGENERATING D-TARTARIC ACID

14-40% by mass concentration aqueous solution of d-tartaric acid is prepared from potassium tartarate by treatment with sulfuric acid at an elevated temperature. The precipitated potassium sulfate is removed by a strainer and the mother liquor containing the regenerated d-tartaric acid is separated. Potassium tartarate is added to a 30-40% by mass concentration aqueous solution of sulfuric acid at 55-60[deg]C. After the completion of the reaction, potassium sulfate, with a cyanide content of less than 0.1 mg/l, is strained from the suspension which has a pH of 0.9-1.1.
