Manufacture of N,N'-dialkyl-dithiocarbamates of metals with valency of 2 or 3- on an industrial scale is new. The method uses amines, sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide, and the reaction of a Na-salt formed in an aqueous medium with a water soluble salt of the appropriate metal. The un-reacted carbon disulfide, the initial amine and the contaminants introduced with the original reactants and produced during the reaction are removed by distillation. The organic phase containing the original reactants and the aqueous phase containing sodium chloride, which is a by-product of the reaction are removed by phase separation. The raw product is freed of volatile components by distillation and washed with water. During the first and second steps of the reaction energetic mixing and cooling are applied, such that the temperature is maintained below 15 degreesC. During the first removal of volatile components a vacuum of 15-50 mmHg is applied and the temperature is maintained at 85-140 deg.C. Phase separation is carried out at 65-90 deg.C. In some cases naphthane oil is added, before the raw product is washed with water, used as a solvent for the marketed product. After water washing a third removal of volatile components is carried out with a vacuum of 15-50 mmHg and a temperature of 85-140 deg.C. |
