PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling automatically a volume of an electronic sound device according to external noise are provided to enhance convenience of a telephonic communication operation by controlling the volume of the electronic sound device according to the external noise. CONSTITUTION: An external noise detection portion(102) detects external noises such as a dial tone, an alarm sound, and a voice sound of a wire/wireless telephone with a predetermined decibel or a predetermined frequency band and outputs corresponding signals according to the detected external noises. A signal processing portion(104) receives an output signal of the external noise detection portion(102) and outputs a control signal for controlling a volume control portion(106). The volume control portion(106) controls a volume of an automatic sound device according to the control signal of the signal processing portion(104).
