The cyano indoles or their enantiomers, diastereoisomers, and their salts with acids and bases have the formula (I) wherein: R1 and R2 are independently H or alkyl; T1 and T2 are independently alkylene; G is a heterocyclic group of formula (a) or (b) with at least one heteroatom being present and the dotted lines indicate optional double bonds; W1, W2 and W3 are independently nitrogen, CR5, NR4 or CO; W4 is nitrogen, CR3, NR4, or CO; W5 is carbon or nitrogen; X1 is a bond, nitrogen, CR3 or NR4; X2, X3 and X4 are independently CR3, NR4, CO, SR4, SO2, O, S, or N; R3 is H, halogen, alkyl, OH, perhaloalkyl, NO2 or an optionally substituted amino; R4 is H, alkyl, or optionally substituted aryl or aralkyl and R5 is a group R3 or two adjacent groups R5 form, together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached, a saturated or unsaturated mono- or bicyclic group that may contain 1-5 O, N, or S hetero atoms and which may be substituted by R3 or oxo. A pharmaceutical composition thereof is useful as a serotonin-reuptake inhibitor and can be used to treat depression, phobias, impulsive disorders, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders.
