PURPOSE: A microwave oven and control method are provided to prevent the failure of a diode detecting a voltage of microwave, by intercepting overload. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven and control method are composed of a body; a magnetron(5) mounted on the one side within the body and generating microwave; a power supplying part for the magnetron; a microwave sensor(21) mounted in the flow path of the microwave; a power controller mounted between the power supplying part and the microwave sensor, and supplying/intercepting power supply to the microwave sensor; and a controller(10) controlling the on/off of the power controller according to power supplying.
