The invention relates to a method for the production of a functional layer (1) with a pre-determined outline on the surfaces of a number of similar base bodies (2), whereby firstly a base layer is applied in the bulk material. After arranging the base bodies (2) a sacrificial layer (4) is applied, the outline of which is complementary to that of the functional layer (1). The base bodies (2) are returned to the bulk material and the functional layer (1) deposited. The sacrificial layer (4) and the exposed parts of the base layer (3) are then removed. The invention further relates to the use of said method for the production of metallised layers on ceramic components. The method is particularly suitable for the production of large numbers of pieces by means of the combination of applying the base layer (2) in the bulk material, depositing the sacrificial layer (4) in order and removing further layers in the bulk material.
