PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce picture quality deterioration called a moving picture false contour when a video signal is gradation-displayed by using plural sub-fields. SOLUTION: Each sub-field from a sub-field SF1 up to SF4 having large brightness ratios is divided into two, and they are alternately arranged on the head side and the end side sequentially in descending order of the brightness ratios, thereby they are arranged from the head of the frame toward the center part like SF1-1, SF2-1, SF3-1, SF4-1, also from the end of the frame toward the center part like SF1-2, SF2-2, SF3-2, SF4-2. Then, an undivided sub-field is arranged at the center part of the frame. Further, adjacent pictures are driven in light-emitting patterns symmetric to each other.
