PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device by which stable images can be obtained for a long time even in endurance use regardless of environmental conditions. SOLUTION: The developing device is equipped with a developing container 14 to store a one component developer, a developer carrying body 5 disposed in the opening of the developing container and used to hold and carry the one component developer, and a developer restricting member 7 to form a nip with the developer carrying body and to restrict the layer thickness of the one component developer carried on the developer carrying body as well as to subject the developer to triboelectrification. The surface of the developer restricting member in the side which forms the nip has an elastic layer. The single component developer contains toner particles obtained by a flocculation method and externally added particles and contains <3.0% in number of particles having >=0.6μm and <2.0μm diameter calculated as circles measured by a flow particle image analyzer.
