PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a brighter display in a projection type color liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal display element for every color of three primary colors necessary for a color display by increasing the brightness of a light source without causing the increase of light going out from the liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The projection type color liquid crystal display device is provided with a white color source 1, a rotary parabolic mirror 2 to reflect light from the light source and parallelize it, lens groups 3 and 4 to divide reflected light from the rotary parabolic mirror 2 into a plurality of luminous flux (fly eye lens), and a convex lens 5 to make divergent luminous flux from these fly eye lenses into parallel luminous flux as a luminous flux generating means to generate a plurality of luminous flux having different incidence angles into liquid crystal display elements 7R, 7B and 7G corresponding to respective wavelength bands for every wavelength band of three primary colors. A plurality of luminous flux having the same wavelength band is made incident on a common liquid crystal display element corresponding to the same wavelength band from directions which are different each other. |
