<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound and a pharmaceutical composition containing the compound each usable for maintaining a homeostasis in highly diversified cells subjected to various kinds of inflammatory or proliferative excitation. SOLUTION: This compound is the isolated R- or S-enantiomer (preferably R-enantiomer) of anω-1 alcohol of a straight-chain 5-8C alkyl substituted on the 1-position of a 3,7-disubstituted xanthine. This compound is effective for the regulation of cellular response to an external or in situ excitation and to a specific type of administration of such an excitation. The other objective pharmaceutical composition containing the compound is also provided.</p> |
