PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographic material characterized by a high sensitivity to fog ratio, further characterized by a good storage life in a storage particularly under the conditions of a humid climate and having increased spectral sensitivity. SOLUTION: The photographic material includes a base and at least one layer containing at least one spectrally sensitized silver halide emulsion and contains at least one compound of formula (I) [where X is S or Se; R1 is an aryl or a heterocyclic; R2 is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl or hetarylalkyl; R3 is an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, hetaryl or hetarylalkyl; and R4 is H, an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, hetaryl or hetarylalkyl or R3 and R4 together are the remaining atoms of a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring].
