PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a riding-past detecting device of a cableway causing no malfunction by bad weather and a physique difference in passengers, imparting no excessive sense of terror to the passengers, capable of quickly and surely detecting riding-past and performing safe and proper operation. SOLUTION: This riding-past detecting device comprises a carrier detecting sensor 1 for detecting a carrier 85 passing through a passenger alighting position A1 of a stop, a fixed camera 2 for photographing the carrier 85 passing through the passenger alighting position on the basis of a detecting signal of this detecting sensor 1, a first storage memory 3 for storing a basic image X of previously photographing an unladen pre-operation carrier by this camera 2, a second storage memory 4 for storing an operation carrier image Y of photographing an operation carrier by the camera 2, a comparing judging part 6 for judging whether or not passengers board the carrier by comparing this operation carrier image data with basic image data stored in the first memory when storing the operation carrier image in this second memory 4, and a control part 5 for stopping operation of the carrier by receiving a passenger existence signal of the comparing judging part.
