PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester undrawn yarn which is stably produced without causing tight winding in high speed spinning, excellent in mechanical properties such as strength, little in change of the properties with the lapse of time even under a high temperature environment when transportation or the like in summer, excellent in shape stability, and smoothly passing through the following processes such as a false twisting and drawing process, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The polyester undrawn yarn is a multifilament consisting of polytrimethylene terephthalate fiber constituted substantially of polytrimethylene terephthalate and having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.7-1.2, and it satisfies the following requirements. (1) Breaking strength: >=2.0 cN/dtex (2) Rupture elongation: 55-130% (3) Degree of birefringence: 0.04-0.07 (4) Delayed shrinkage percentage: <=2% (5) Dry-heat shrinkage percentage at 50 deg.C: <=10%.
