PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a continuously variable transmission with infinite gear ratio capable of allowing the driver to acknowledge whether the selecting operation for starting has been executed validly and avoiding occurrence of engine stall resulting from any excessive creep torque. SOLUTION: The continuously variable transmission with infinite gear ratio able to accompolish a geared neutral point at which the unit gear ratio is infinite is equipped with a start selecting operation sensing means to sense the selecting operation of the driver from the N-range position to the running range position, and when such operation is sensed, a command to engage a power circulation clutch in disengaged condition is issued, wherein a torque shift influence exists in a stepless shifting mechanism such that the unit gear ratio remains as keeping the geared neutral point even if a step motor is moved in the direction of starting at the time of starting, and with this torque shift influence taken into consideration, a select torque compensation control means emits a command for moving the step motor in the direction of generating the output shaft torque within the region where such torque shift is generated.
