Water repellent composition

A composition comprises a mixture is formed by combining water, an organic polymer selected from polybutylene and an alkyd resin and an alkoxysilane of the formula RnSi(OR')4-n (I) where R = a 1-10C alkyl radical , a 2-8C alkenyl radical, phenyl, chloropropyl or trifluoropropyl, n = 1 or 2, R' = 1-6C alkyl radical, the composition being free of amine or quaternary ammonium functional silanes. Also claimed is a method of rendering a surface water repellent.
