Method for improving the signal quality of a modulated optical signal (os) with a carrier signal (Ft) whereby a signal generation unit (SCU) generates an optical signal (ps) with a frequency that is equal to the carrier frequency (Ft) less the Brillouin frequency shift ( DELTA F). In the optical transmission fiber (OF) the resulting signal is combined against the transfer direction (GUER) to oppose the carrier signal (Ft) so that the modulated transmission signal is reduced. An Independent claim is made for a device for improving signal quality.
