PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly manage, in a bearing device, the formation of a hardened layer with respect to the outer periphery of a hollow shaft against which an inner ring abuts. SOLUTION: In the bearing fitting area of the hollow shaft 14, the hardened layer 24 is formed in the range extending from a position corresponding to the non-calked side end face of the inner ring 15 to a portion in front of a position corresponding to the calked side end face of the inner ring, and the range extending from a portion in front of the position corresponding to the calked side end face to the axial end of the hollow shaft remains unhardened. The position of the calked side end of the hardened layer is determined between a position, which is determined in accordance with a predetermined relationship between the length of the fitting area of the hollow shaft with the rolling bearing and the thickness of the shaft, and a starting point 15a of flexion caused by the calking, so that the formation of the hardened layer with respect to the outer periphery of the hollow shaft is properly managed. |
