PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display quality without increasing the production cost. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal having negative dielectric anisotropy held between electrode substrates G1, G2. The electrode substrate G2 has an insulating structure 21 to control the tilt direction of the liquid crystal to divide each pixel into a plurality of domains and has a columnar spacer 22 to maintain the gap between the electrode substrates G1, G2. In particular, the insulating structure 21 is disposed in a recessed part formed on the electrode substrate G2 and made of the same material as that of the columnar spacer 22.
