The electrode substrate G2 has an insulating structure 21 to control the tilt direction of the liquid crystal to divide each pixel into a plurality of domains and has a columnar spacer 22 to maintain the gap between the electrode substrates G1, G2. In particular, the insulating structure 21 is disposed in a recessed part formed on the electrode substrate G2 and made of the same material as that of the columnar spacer 22.
