PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating a plastic waste in which the yield of an olefinic hydrocarbon gas is high and the treatment can be carried out at a low cost. SOLUTION: The plastic waste is vaporized in a pyrolytic vessel 2 by pyrolysis and the resulting pyrolyzed gas is brought into contact with a boron- containing silicate catalyst 8a in a catalytic reactional vessel 3 to recover the resultant reactional product.
