PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition enabling an ultra-water-repellent coat to be formed in a few steps even on a large-sized object to-be-coated, and to provide a coated article formed by applying the coating composition thereto. SOLUTION: This coating composition essentially comprises microparticles with hydrophilic surface and such a block polymer as to have a hydrophobic group on one end of and a hydrophilic group on the other end of a straight- chain polymer. By coating the surface of an object to-be-coated 10 with this composition followed by drying, unevennesses owing to the mxcroparticles are formed on the surface of the object 10 and the block polymer is adsorbed so as to cover the unevennesses to form a polymeric layer 12, wherein the block polymer is adsorbed to the surface of the object in such a way that the hydrophilic groups 12c side is oriented on the surface side of the unevennesses while the hydrophobic groups 12b side on the surface side of the polymeric layer 12.
