PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-rotation type absolute value encoder capable of discriminating wrong counting of the number of revolution, and increasing the speed without increase of current consumption by setting the allowable rotational speed at the OFF time of a main power source or the like near its limit. SOLUTION: This multi-rotation type absolute value encoder has a constitution having a code plate 2 for giving three or more kinds of different position information, a detection means 1 for detecting position information of the code plate, a timing generation means 8 for giving detection timing to the detection means, counting means 7a, 7b for counting by a signal obtained from the detection means, and data error detection means 9a, 9b for detecting an error of position data from the position data of the code plate obtained from the detection means, and also having a data correction means having at least two or more pairs of the counting means and the data error detection means, for correcting to a counted value of the counting means from which an error is not detected, by an error signal of the position data detected by some data error detection means.
