PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable speed control device of an automatic transmission which enables a driver to perform running-in without a burden in a new vehicle requiring running-in and can improve durability of an engine and an automatic transmission unit. SOLUTION: This variable speed control device of the automatic transmission is provided with a change gear ratio control means for obtaining a variable speed target value from a prepared variable speed map according to at least a throttle opening and a vehicle speed and controlling the change gear ratio of the automatic transmission. The change gear ratio control means is provided with a special variable speed map for obtaining a variable speed target value at an engine speed lower than that in the ordinary variable speed map at least. The variable speed ratio control means is provided with a mileage detecting means for detecting the mileage of the vehicle, a mileage determining means for determining whether the mileage detected by the mileage detecting means is less than a preset mileage or not, and a map switching means for switching to the special variable speed map when the mileage is determined to be less than the preset mileage by the mileage determining means.
