PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display unit which is designed so as to scan an image within a narrow horizontal scanning range regardless of the frequency at which horizontal scanning lines are received. SOLUTION: When the horizontal line frequency of a received display signal does not fall within the narrow horizontal scanning range, an image frame in the display signal is scaled at least in the vertical direction. Thus, the product of the number of horizontal lines in a scaled image frame and a frame rate falls within the narrow scanning range. As a result, the display unit can scan the image within the horizontal range of a designed object. Since the frame rate with which the image is coded is equal to a scanning rate, the scaling can be performed without using a frame buffer.
