PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material for a brake, having improved heat resistance, mechanical strength and frictional characteristics. SOLUTION: This friction material for the brake is obtained by integrally forming a pulp assembly comprising a polyparaphenylene benzobisoxazole pulp and a thermoplastic resin by heating and pressurizing the pulp and the resin.
