An internal antenna 10 is located in a cavity within a rear case 2 of a cellular phone. A metal element of the antenna connects a radiator 13 with a feeding point on a circuit board 6. The circuit board has a grounding pattern. The antenna also has a reflecting plane 15 to reflect electromagnetic waves radiated from the radiator 13. The reflecting plane 15 also forms part of the ground plane. The antenna is supported between the PCB 6 and the rear of the case 2 such that no soldering is required, thus simplifying the assembly process. The antenna could be an inverted F antenna or chip dielectric antenna. Conductive paint 9 may be applied to a region of the inner surface of the rear case 2 for shielding purposes. |
