PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the preparation of 1-propyl-2,4,5- trimethoxybenzene useful as a fragrant molecule, and a starting material and intermediate for producing various kinds of medicines. SOLUTION: This process for the preparation of 1-propyl-2,4,5- trimethoxybenzene comprises providing crude calamus oil or β-asarone in a solvent, hydrogenating the solution in the presence of a catalyst, filtering the catalyst from the resultant mixture, removing the solvent from the filtered product under a reduced pressure, subjecting the reduced calamus oil to a silica gel chromatography using an eluent to obtain a desired product in liquid with 85-97% purity. |
