摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately judge regeneration timing or the like in an internal combustion engine having an exhaust gas recirculation device by accurately estimating a collected particulate amount of a particulate trap arranged in an engine exhaust system without increasing formation of nitrogen oxides. SOLUTION: This device is provided with the particulate trap, an exhaust gas recirculation passage communicating a particulate trap upstream side of the engine exhaust system with an engine intake system, a control valve for controlling an exhaust gas amount to be recirculated via the exhaust gas recirculation passage to an optimal amount corresponding to an engine operated state, and a fresh air amount detecting means the detecting a fresh air amount taken into the engine intake system. During a fuel cut (steps 101-102), the control valve is opened at a predetermined opening (step 106), the fresh air amount is detected by the fresh air amount detecting means, and the collected particulate amount of the particulate trap is determined on the basis of the detected fresh air amount (step 108).
