A network-based game system is provided that includes a game processing subsystem (30) for providing a virtual game environment (40) in which player-controlled virtual game entities (50,51) can move. Players communicate with the game processing subsystem (30) via connectivity subsystems (20-22), such as wireless and wired LANs, that each permit access by multiple players. The processing subsystem (30) associates each connectivity subsystem (20-22) with a respective particular location (41-43) in the game environment (40). Each such particular location (41;43) has at least one special game-play significance for a virtual game entity (50;51) associated with a player communicating with the processing subsystem (40) via the corresponding connectivity subsystem (20;22); for example, the game entity may only be allowed to enter and leave the game at this location. |
