PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical parametric amplifier for an optical fiber which has amplification characteristics having no dependency on input signal light polarization without using a polarization control means. SOLUTION: This optical parametric amplifier which inputs pump light of wavelengthλp and digitally-modulated signal light of wavelengthλs to the optical fiber and amplifies and outputs the signal light of wavelengthλs through an optical parametric process is equipped with a scrambler which scrambles the polarization state of the mentioned pump light in a period shorter than the 1-bit time of the digital modulation of the mentioned signal light.
