PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric refrigerator, in which defrosting time is shortened by efficiently heating the upper part of an evaporator 10. SOLUTION: The electric refrigerator includes an evaporator generating cool air, a defrosting heater for removing frost adhered to the evaporator, and a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of the evaporator. The heater is energized in the defrosting operation. When evaporator temperature detected by the sensor has reached a predetermined temperature for de- energizing the heater, the energization is stopped to finish the defrosting operation. A first defrosting heater is horizontally provided below the evaporator. A second defrosting heater is provided in the front or in the rear of the evaporator. In defrosting operation, the evaporator is heating by the first heater from below of the evaporator, and the evaporator is heated by the second defrosting heater from the rear or front side.
