An apparatus and method useful for disinfecting a contact lens are disclosed . The apparatus includes a color indicator ele- ment comprising a redox polymer containing a repeating unit which has a stab le oxidized slats and a stable reduced state. This color indicator element provides a color indication of the presence of the oxidative disinfectant; e.g., hydrogen peroxide, in the liquid medium.
