PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dehydration device which is capable of extending an operating time by restraining the clogging of slits in a slit cage without decreasing a dehydration throughput and thereby, reducing the number of times of overhauling, and reducing a load on a drying device in an after-treatment by diminishing a moisture content (heat loss) on the outlet side for an elastomer to be dehydrated as well as a dehydration method. SOLUTION: This dehydration device is constituted of a screw shaft 4 for sending the elastomer to be dehydrated in the axial direction and a barrel 10 which covers the outer periphery of the screw shaft 4 and is made up of the slit cage 14 with slits 22, for discharging the moisture of the elastomer to be dehydrated to the outside, formed by slit bars 20. At least, some of the slit bars 20 constituting the slit cage 14 are formed in such a way that the thickness tapers off from the inside to the outside of the slit cage 14.
