PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of activating carbon monoxide removing catalyst, which is capable of reducing the concentration of carbon monoxide with the suppression of the consumption of hydrogen for the purpose of enabling the low temperature operation of the a carbon monoxide removing apparatus. SOLUTION: The method of activating the carbon monoxide removing catalyst is performed by allowing the carbon monoxide removing catalyst for oxidizing and removing carbon monoxide in a fuel gas consisting essentially of hydrogen to bring into contact with an inert gas or a mixed gas containing equal to or above finite value to <50 vol.% hydrogen and the balance, the inert gas, to activate.
