PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer which can reduce running costs for roll sheets. SOLUTION: When a sheet leading end part butts against a sheet leading end switch SW4 at a printing start time, the roll sheet 10 is discharged by a predetermined length LA and cut, and then the roll sheet 10 is drawn back by a predetermined length LB (S1-S2: YES to S6). On the other hand, when the sheet leading end part does not butt against the sheet leading end switch SW4 at the printing start time, the roll sheet 10 is discharged until it butts against the sheet leading end switch SW4, then drawn back by a predetermined length LC (S1-S2: NO to S14), and discharged by a former feed amount among a margin amount. After a thermal head 27 is pressed to adhere to the roll sheet 10, the roll sheet 10 is discharged until a signal from a photointerrupter 18 is inputted (S7-S9: NO). When the signal from the photointerrupter 18 is inputted, the roll sheet is discharged by a residual feed amount obtained by subtracting the discharge amount from a later feed amount.
