摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a vehicle from its rapid deceleration when inter-vehicle distance control suspended during operation of an accelerator for acceleration is restarted by ending of the operation of the accelerator. SOLUTION: While an accelerator during operation for acceleration is decided in a step 31, follow-up running by inter-vehicle distance control is inhibited in a step 32, troublesomeness performing follow-up running control though approaching a leading car by acceleration with a self intention of a driver is eliminated. While ending of operation of the accelerator is decided in the step 31, a step 33, by whether an inter- vehicle distance L is smaller or not than a steady target inter-vehicle distance L*0, or by whether an inter-vehicle relative speed Vr is smaller or not than a preset value, decides whether deceleration of vehicle for inter-vehicle distance control is performed or not immediately when the inter-vehicle distance control is restarted by ending of operation of the accelerator. In the case of deceleration control not immediately, a transient target inter-vehicle distance L* and a target inter-vehicle relative speed Vr* are calculated by using an ordinary large control gainζin a step 34, in the case of deceleration control immediately, the transient target inter-vehicle distance L* and target inter-vehicle relative speed Vr* are calculated by using a small control gainζin a step 37 on conditions 35, 36, the transient target inter-vehicle distance L* is realized in steps 38 to 41.
