PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer that can reduce useless cost by downloading from a host device a printing emulation program which is usually unnecessary without providing it to the printer as a normal component such as a ROM. SOLUTION: This printer 100 comprises a central processor 1, a font memory 2, a system F/W-(firmware) ROM 3, a system memory RAM 4, an EPROM 5, a page buffer memory RAM 6, a host I/F(interface) circuit 7, a host computer 8 and an F/W(firmware) ROM 9 storing one emulation program (EM1). In this printer, only the emulation program to be normally used is stored in the ROM. An emulation program to be newly added and the download data is stored to the system memory RAM 4 or the page buffer RAM 6 which is a rewritable RAM and then the number of ROMs is suppressed, thereby reducing the cost. |
