PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming an image capable of improving releasability and scuff resistance when ink jet recording is conducted by using a pigment ink. SOLUTION: An ink jet recording medium comprises a base, an ink absorption layer and a thermoplastic resin layer sequentially laminated. In this medium, a THF insoluble content of at least one thermoplastic resin contained in the thermoplastic resin layer is 0.1 to 20 mass% and a weight-average molecular weight of the THF soluble content is 50,000 to 2,000,000.
