PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make cartridges of an ink jet recording apparatus compact and improve the degree of freedom in designing the cartridges. SOLUTION: Head parts 21 and 31 have ink discharge opening groups 23 and 33 for discharging ink. Cartridges 2 and 3 which are provided with the head parts 21 and 31 and, ink storage parts 22 and 32 for storing ink are set to a carriage 1. A control circuit part 14 electrically connected to the head parts 21 and 31 is also set to the carriage 1. Since the cartridges and the control circuit part of the ink jet recording apparatus are separated from each other, the cartridges can be made compact, and the cartridges and the carriage can be made compact. The control circuit part which is discarded simultaneously when the cartridge is replaced can be used half permanently irrespective of the replacement of the cartridge, so that cartridge costs can be reduced.
