The spin-stabilized film mirror consists of reflecting film, cables, and the weights and load connected therewith. The film mirror surface is a curved face of revolution. The edge of the film is connected by cables to multiple weights at the periphery of the mirror face, and the weights in turn is connected to the load, which is located at the position of mirror axis. The film mirror stretches out in space and maintains its prefabricated form of curved face of revolution by spin centrifugal pull. The mass of the film mirror is less than 40 g per square meter, capable of doubling and redoubling the generating power of solar energy equipment on a spacecraft, reducing significantly the weight of the system. Film mirrors of large scale is capable of collecting solar energy of tens of square kilometers in space, paving the way for large space solar power station. |
