PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device and an operation method therefor capable of performing locking and unlocking by a single thumb turn from the indoor side, operating one cylinder from the outdoor side at locking time and operating two cylinders at unlocking time. SOLUTION: The locking device 1 is provided with a first cylinder lock 5 for performing locking and unlocking by advancing and retreating a lock member by key operation from the outdoor side, a slide plate 25 moved to a position for checking rotation of the first cylinder lock 5 by interlocking with locking key operation of the first cylinder lock 5, a second cylinder lock 7 for retreating the slide plate 25 from a rotation checking position of the first cylinder lock 5 by unlocking key operation from the outdoor side and a thumb turn 45 for projecting the lock member by locking rotary operation, moving the slide plate 25 to the rotation checking position of the first cylinder lock 5, retreating the slide plate 25 from the rotation checking position by unlocking rotary operation and retreating the lock member.
