PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of solid fine particles of a water-insoluble photographically useful compound excellent in dispersion stability and suitability to coating at a high concentration. SOLUTION: In the method for preparing an aqueous dispersion of solid fine particles of a water-insoluble photographically useful compound by mixing an aqueous slurry not substantially containing gelatin and containing solid fine particles of the water-insoluble photographically useful compound with a gelatin solution, the slurry contains a specified high molecular compound having a carboxyl group bonding to the principal chain and the gelatin solution contains a specified compound having a sulfo group.
