PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction member separating method for easily separating a friction member at a low cost, a brake member formed by recycling a base member after the separation of the friction member, and its recycling method. SOLUTION: The friction member separating method for separating the friction member, adhered to the metal base member via an adhesive layer, from the base member comprise heating the adhesive layer at the side of the base member and then separating the friction member from the base member. The brake member comprises the metal base member after the separation of the friction member and a new friction member newly provided on the metal base member. The brake member is recycled by separating the friction member in accordance with the above separating method and then newly providing the new friction member on the base member after separation.
