PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that efficiently applies medium tone processing to a digital image and imbeds a message to the digital image subjected to the medium tone processing. SOLUTION: In the method of this invention that generates a medium tone digital image with an imbedded image, by using a digital message and at least one digital carrier image a scrambled message image is generated and employing error spread processing to add a noise including the scrambled message image to a digital image enables medium tone processing to the digital image.
