PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera that can photograph a still picture through accurate exposure setting by using a histogram from a first shot. SOLUTION: The digital camera is provided with an image pickup element 12 that picks up an object, a liquid crystal monitor 26 that displays a picked-up still picture, and a system controller 13 that periodically drives the image pickup element 12 to obtain the still picture, applies re-size processing to the obtained still picture to obtain a still picture for monitor display, displays the obtained still picture on the liquid crystal monitor 26, converts the obtained still picture for monitor display in matching with an exposure condition set at that point of time, collects data for a histogram on the basis of the still picture after the conversion, superimposes the calculated histogram on the still picture for monitor display and displays the resulting still picture.
